A Universal Orlando employee helps a child with autism

5/5 - (3 votes)

Lenore Koppelman took her son with autism Ralph to Universal Orlando Resort for the first time and
experienced something he will never forget: overwhelming kindness on the part of park
employees.

As she wrote in a Facebook post on May 29 that has been shared 40,000 times, Ralph was very
excited to go to Spiderman in Islands of Adventure. He waited and waited and waited, and “the
anticipation was driving him crazy”.

When they finally reached the ride, Ralph received bad news: “The ride had broken down,”
Koppelman wrote. Everyone was asked to leave, but Ralph had an episode caused by frustration.
Ralph collapsed on the floor … he began to sob, scream, rock, hyperventilate and struggle to
breathe. But as soon as the chaos began, an employee named Jen stepped in to make Ralph feel
better.

“She sat on the floor with him,” Koppelman writes. She rested at his side while he cried with all his
heart, and she helped him breathe again… she told people to keep walking around them … then
he told him it was good to be sad and feel that way.

How did Jen know how to calm Ralph?

Everyone at Universal Studios receives special training when it comes to people who are autistic,
as well as other special needs. Koppelman thanks all the other employees who helped Ralph
during the bad trip.

Given the increasingly recurrent incidence of autism in daily life in society, the attention given to
the situation by companies is increasing.

Although there is no cure as such for autism spectrum disorder (ASD), there are treatments that
could help improve the quality of life of patients, for example, stem cell therapy provides patients
with autism spectrum disorder a remarkable improvement in most cases.
