His achievements against leukemia make David Gómez Almaguer one of the most recognized hematologists in the country.
Thanks to the professionalization that he implemented, David today chairs the Hematology Unit of the University Hospital, which has its own equipment, stem cell banks and umbilical cord, which allows research and save many lives.
“Our biggest challenge was to simplify procedures in bone marrow transplants,” he explains. “In 1997 we approached published research as news, we talked to their authors. We saw a tendency to use less chemotherapy and put more donor cells. ”
“We learned that stem cells can be attracted to the circulation and transplanted without destroying the bone marrow of the patient, since they accommodate and open space to others.”
“We have done joint work, especially when organizing the largest bone marrow transplant program in the country, and what I would highlight the most is the hematology school that he presides over at the University and which is the best in the country”
Currently, he is also part of our medical team, giving stem cells therapies to treat diseases such as cerebral palsy, autism and multiple sclerosis.
